Ecotopia
A downloadable game
Ectopia is a board game like economy / ecology simulation where up to 4 players develop their country.
Players are not only responsible for shaping the future of their own country but, as CO2 levels increase, the survival of the whole world.
Developing your country requires money, resources, energy and innovation. Your country is divided into tiles. You can change tiles using interact to produce different currencies, usually at the cost of other currencies. You can reassign any of your own tiles as often as you want, however the construction cost each time you change a tile, will be lost.
To change a tile, use the movement keys to select the tile. If it is your own tile, it will be marked by a green square and the + cursor in the middle of the screen is green. If you enter someone else's area, the + cursor changes to red. You can look at their tiles, but you cannot change them.
When you develop your country, many technology upgrades will increase your CO2 production. Natural areas, especially forests, can counter that for a bit. Ecology is a global discipline, so if you have a high CO2 production and other players / countries do not, they will be able to consume your CO2. However, if the CO2 production is higher than the natural capacity, or if all players are high volume CO2 producers, the global CO2 density will drive a rise of the sea level.
If the sea rises, you will start to loose your coastal areas at first, but it will not stop there.
In the struggle for survival, however, some additional upgrade options may appear.
